Rev. Andrea Anderson is a proud African Nova Scotian and a devoted servant-leader whose life and ministry reflect a deep commitment to faith, community, and transformational leadership. She serves as the Senior Pastor of East Preston United Baptist Church in the historic Black community of Preston Township, where she provides dynamic spiritual leadership grounded in the Word of God and a passion for people. Rev. Andrea is married to Eugene Anderson, and together they are blessed with two adult children and three grandchildren.
Rev. Andrea’s call to ministry is rooted in a powerful personal testimony of God’s redeeming grace. She first began ministering as a Christian comedian, using humor to uplift and encourage others, before discerning a deeper call to pastoral ministry. Her life reflects the transformative power of God, and she is committed to helping others experience that same power to renew, restore, and give purpose. She is a sought-after speaker who has ministered at churches, women’s conferences, and community events, known for her authenticity, energy, and ability to connect across generations.
In addition to her pastoral leadership, Rev. Andrea has had a distinguished career in public service. She served as a Commissioner with the Nova Scotia Public Service Commission, becoming the first Black Nova Scotian appointed to this role, and retired from the position in 2023. In this capacity, she provided strategic leadership on human resource management policies and advised senior government officials. Her work focused on advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion, championing systemic change, and ensuring accountability across the public service. She collaborated with senior leaders on anti-Black racism initiatives and served as Chair of the Intergovernmental Committee of Public Service Commissioners, helping to build consensus on complex national issues.
She now draws on this extensive experience in her role as Moderator of the African United Baptist Association, bringing strategic insight, collaborative leadership, and a strong commitment to equity and justice to the work of strengthening churches and advancing ministry across the Association.
Rev. Andrea holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Mount Saint Vincent University and a Master of Divinity from Acadia Divinity College, where she serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees. In 2024, she was honored to preach the John Gladstone Sermon at the 63rd Annual Commissioning Service of Acadia Divinity College. She is widely respected for her sound judgment, collaborative leadership, and unwavering commitment to equity and justice. Her contributions to public service have been recognized with the Queen’s Jubilee Medal.
As Moderator of the African United Baptist Association, Rev. Andrea Anderson provides spiritual and strategic leadership to churches across the region. She is deeply committed to strengthening congregations, supporting clergy, and fostering unity within the Association. Through her leadership, she continues to encourage growth, collaboration, and a shared vision for ministry that is responsive to the needs of African Nova Scotian communities and future generations.
